THE PROBLEMS OF NIGER DELTA

owning to all the pandemonium in the Niger delta, i have decided to reach out to the world through my blogs.

about 2 weeks ago, i read a particular News on the yahoo homepage describing Nigeria as the main reason for the fast inflation of the fuels to about $200.

I decided to go to the home scene, to view the complaints of the people, and what i got was fantastic.

all the answers points to the fact that Nigeria have a bad government. but why? if Nigeria government are functioning as they were described, then they would have payed the Niger delta people some compensation as a result of the damages that oil driling had caused.

however i have a different opinion on this issue.

i want to appeal to the Niger delta people that they should ask God for forgiveness. why?

today they were all blaming the government that the government do not help them; yes, the government were to be blame for this indeed, but what of the problems that the Niger delta people created for themselves which is now the Major factor destroying their lands?

what is this one saying? you may ask? yes, i am very sure that our governments have brain, and so they would not execute a project which will at last hurt his own people. so, who are the people vandalising the pipelines without repairing them? the governments or the youths?

that's the first question.

the second lies in the fact that, on sept. 23, 2005, it was reported that 4 pipelines were vandalised in warri alone, and a few days latter, 2 national power grids were vandalised. who did all those? the government or the youths? i am sure that we all knew the implication of an exposed pipelines and what it may cause. i mean such could cost the nearby villages to lost their farms, waters adultrated and oil spillage. now when such began to happen, we are all shouting government, meanwhie we are mostly in many times the problems of ourselves. also you know what a vandalised grid could cause? it is automatic power failure. and when such begins to happen, we start shouting government all the time but neglecting the fact that we are the real brain behind most of our problems.

yes government have their own blame to bear. i mean they should value the people whose resources are the major wealth income of the nation, nevertheless, the government alone cannot be blame for this. why? it takes two to tango.

the Niger delta should try to help protect the government investment no matter how, they should realise that the government is really trying their best and so we too should help them till their dream for us become a reality.

NEVERTHELESS, i am using this opportunity to challenge our government that they should arise to the needs of this people. Nigeria is one and should never be divided. the word of God said: "oh how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity" (ps.133:1).

an addage epitomised it in this form: 'bi ara ko ba ro okun, ara ko ni ro adiye' and ' irorun igi, ohun ni irorun eye' meaning 'the peace of the birdis an indication that their is peace with the tree'.
